Lucknow – The FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) Lucknow Chapter marked a momentous occasion as it hosted its ‘Change of Guard’ ceremony for the 2026–27 term, inducting Simran Sahni as its 12th Chairperson. The event, held at the elegant Taj Mahal Lucknow, brought together leading women entrepreneurs, professionals, and changemakers for an evening defined by inspiration, leadership, and purpose.
Gracing the occasion as the Guest of Honour was Puja Garg, the 43rd National President of FLO, who lauded the Lucknow chapter for its progressive initiatives and growing influence. The outgoing Chairperson, Vandita Agarwal, formally handed over the leadership baton, reflecting on her tenure and introducing the new executive team.
However, the highlight of the evening was an engaging and deeply insightful session with India’s first woman IPS Officer and former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi, whose powerful message—“Clarity is the key to success”—left a lasting impact on the audience.
Clarity Before Commitment: A Life of Conscious Choices
In an interactive session with Simran Sahni and Devanshi Seth, Dr. Kiran Bedi shared candid insights from her personal and professional journey. Reflecting on her early life decisions, particularly marriage, she emphasized the importance of clarity before commitment.
She revealed that she entered marriage fully aware of her career path and the unconventional life that lay ahead. “We married knowing we would have two professions, two spaces, and possibly never live a conventional life under one roof,” she said.
Her husband, she noted, accepted her individuality and ambition from the outset. “He married me knowing I was unconventional, and I married him knowing he respected that,” she added.
Her message resonated strongly: clarity about one’s identity, purpose, and choices eliminates future conflict and builds stronger relationships.
Courage is a Result of Discipline, Not Instinct
Addressing her image as a fearless officer—often associated with bold decisions such as enforcing rules without bias—Dr. Bedi clarified that courage is not an overnight trait.
“You don’t suddenly become brave. Courage is a result of discipline, decision-making, and self-respect,” she explained.
She shared that her choice to join the police force was driven by a desire to serve people directly. “I didn’t like the office chair; I preferred the field where the common man could get justice,” she said.
Her courage, she explained, was shaped over time through consistent values, strong decision-making, and a clear sense of purpose.

Early Sensitivity to Injustice Shaped Leadership
Dr. Bedi traced her strong sense of justice back to her childhood. She described how her parents encouraged her to reflect deeply on situations of unfairness.
“If something wrong happened, my parents would ask me what I should have done differently,” she recalled.
These reflections made her highly sensitive to injustice—whether it was gender discrimination, social inequality, or practices like dowry.
“I saw discrimination, disrespect, and dependency imposed on women. I decided I would never accept that for myself,” she said.
This rejection of injustice became the foundation of her leadership philosophy and fueled her determination to challenge societal norms.
Women Are Natural Leaders
One of the most powerful themes of her address was women’s leadership.
“Women are innate managers—whether at home, in the workplace, or in governance,” she said.
She emphasized that women do not need empowerment but recognition. “The goal of feminism is not to empower women—they are already empowered—but to change how the world perceives them,” she stated.
Encouraging women to take charge, she added, “Be visible, be accessible, and focus on solutions. Do not succumb to pressure—keep moving forward.”
Drawing from her tenure as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, she shared how people connected with her on a personal level. “They called me ‘Mother’ or ‘Sister’. That human connection is a woman’s strength—use it to create transformation,” she said.
Turning Adversity into Opportunity: Lessons from Prison Reforms
One of the most compelling parts of her interaction was her experience of being posted in prison administration—often seen as a punishment posting.
“For others it was punishment, for me it was an opportunity,” she said.
With limited resources, she transformed prison systems by:
- Introducing education and skill-building programs
- Separating hardened criminals to reduce violence
- Engaging directly with inmates to understand their issues
- Collaborating with NGOs to bridge resource gaps
“I saw people who needed healing, education, and dignity—not just punishment,” she explained.
Her efforts led to a reduction in violence, crime linkages, and unrest within prisons, demonstrating how vision and compassion can transform even the toughest environments.
Self-Awareness and SWOT Analysis: The Path to Growth
Dr. Bedi strongly emphasized self-awareness as the cornerstone of success.
“You are your own best counsellor,” she said.
She encouraged individuals to conduct a detailed SWOT analysis—evaluating strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
“Analyze your weaknesses deeply. Ask why they exist. Give yourself time,” she advised.

She stressed that self-care goes hand in hand with self-awareness. Writing a journal, she said, is an effective way to process thoughts and gain clarity.
“Write your thoughts—even if you tear the page later. The act of writing brings clarity,” she noted.
She also recommended:
- Reading regularly
- Practicing meditation and physical fitness
- Seeking guidance when needed
“Clarity does not come automatically—it requires continuous effort and reflection,” she said.

Sisterhood Over Competition
Addressing FLO members, she highlighted the importance of collaboration among women.
“You are not competitors—you are collaborators. This is sisterhood,” she said.
She encouraged women to build support systems, seek counselling when needed, and help each other grow.
“Everyone needs help at some stage. Knowing where to seek it is wisdom,” she added.
Inspiration Must Be Renewed Daily
Dr. Bedi also spoke about the need for continuous inspiration.
“Yesterday’s inspiration is over today. You must recharge your mind and spirit every day,” she said.
She shared her personal habit of reading and sharing motivational messages daily, emphasizing that inspiration is like energy—it needs constant renewal.
“Recharge yourself the way you recharge your phone,” she advised.
Message to Youth: Define Who You Want to Be
Responding to a question on youth, she delivered a powerful message:
“Don’t just decide what career you want—decide what kind of person you want to be.”
She stressed that character, values, and integrity are more important than professional titles.
“Ask yourself—what kind of human being do I want to become?” she said, urging both youth and parents to focus on holistic development.
Entrepreneurship and Nation-Building
Addressing the women entrepreneurs of FLO, Dr. Bedi emphasized the need for innovation in India’s manufacturing sector.
“India needs new ideas. Identify import substitutes and think about what we can produce ourselves,” she said.
She highlighted that such initiatives would generate foreign exchange, strengthen the economy, and contribute to national growth.
Social Impact Initiatives Take Centre Stage
The event also showcased FLO Lucknow’s commitment to social responsibility.
A major highlight was the launch of Radio Parwaz at Lucknow Jail—an initiative by the India Vision Foundation, reaching around 3,100 inmates and promoting rehabilitation through communication and education.
FLO also announced support for the education of ten inmates’ children, reinforcing its dedication to inclusive development.
Additionally, the Apollo Privilege Card was unveiled in collaboration with ApolloMedics Hospitals, aimed at making quality healthcare more accessible.
The event was conducted as an eco-friendly initiative, with conscious efforts to minimize plastic usage.
A New Chapter for FLO Lucknow
As FLO Lucknow enters its 12th year under the leadership of Simran Sahni, the organization is set to further strengthen its focus on leadership, empowerment, and community impact.
Dr. Kiran Bedi’s address served as a guiding light, reminding everyone that success is rooted in clarity, courage, and continuous self-improvement.
Her closing message resonated deeply with the audience:
“We all have limitless potential—the sky is the limit. But clarity is what turns that potential into success.”
